When Ip Man got back to the pagoda, he test fought with his friends in the pagoda, everyone lost the match with him. Even his adopted brother (Ip Tin-chi). But when the first student in the pagoda (Ng Chung-sok-the one that was counted on by the passed away master) came home and found out that Ip Man had been studying martial art from Luong Bich he beaten up Ip Man and grounded him to kneel down in front of the maste's picture and think about what he had done. Ip Tin-chi fell in love with the girl in the pagoda that was the girl who also had a crush on Ip Man(Lee Mei-wai). However, Ip Man had fallen in love with the rich girl (Cheung Wing-shing, the daughter of the vice-mayor of Foshan). They accidently met each other when Ip Man and his friends were going to see a movie. Ip Man went out with Cheung Wing-shing and when Lee Mei-wai found out that Ip Man had a relation ship with Cheung, she accepted Ip Tin-chi. Ip Tin-ch worked for a group of martial artists in Fohsan that was ran by Lee Mei-wai's father. One day, a group of Japanese broke into the group's place and demanded to have a contest between Chinese martial art and Japanese martial art. The daughter of the ruled man in the Japanese group had a fight with Ip Tin-chi with a Katana and she lost the fight. Finally, Ip Tin-chi had celebrated a wedding with Lee Mei-wai. At night, Lee Mei-wai's father was drunk and Ip Man had to help him to get home safely. But he attacked Ip Man (because he was drunk) and a guy saw them fighting with each other. On the morning, they found the dead body of Lee Mei-wai's father on the floor and they concluded that Ip Man killed him because someone saw them fighting last night. Ip Man knew that he was not the one that killed Lee Mei-wai's father. Ip Man saw fingers mark on Lee Mei-wai's father's throat just like the move of his martial art that he used with Ip Tin-chi and he had taught that move for Ip Tin-chi. So he knew that it was Ip Tin-chi who killed Lee Mei-wai's father. After that, Ip Man was being locked in the prison and Cheung Wing-shing and her father lied to the officer that Ip Man was at Cheung Wing-shing's house last night and he was not the one who killed Lee Mei-wai's father. Ip Man was released. At the night after the day of the wedding, Lee Mei-wai found a letter from the Japanese to Ip Tin-chi that he had a mission to kill Lee Mei-wai's father. Lee Mei-wai was trying to suicide but was stopped by Ip Tin-chi. He convinced her to run away with him and she agreed, but on the way, they were stopped by the Japanese that broke into the martial art group's place. They captured Lee Mei-wai and Ip Tin-chi had to fight for them to get her back.
"At the martial arts association, Ng Chung-sok was defeated by Ip Tin-chi and the Japanese. Ip Man arrives in time to save Ng Chung-sok from being killed and then subsequently defeats the Japanese and Ip Tin-chi. Ip Tin-chi then reveals that he is actually a Japanese and was sent to China to infiltrate and work as an undercover agent. He then performs seppuku to end his life. Ip Man rushes off to the pier to rescue Lee. He defeats the Japanese and rescues Lee. At the pier, they discover that the Japanese have been smuggling Japanese children to China, possibly as future undercover agents, similar to Ip Tin-chi."
